Continuous Hiring – Heavy Equipment Operator 

Canada Pump and Power (CPP) is continually hiring Heavy Equipment Operators for our Fort McMurray operations!

Job Duties:

  • Understand and follow company Golden Rules and acknowledge that any violation is cause for termination
  • Follow company processes and company safe work procedures and practices
  • Work within company, customer, and other existing standards and regulations pertaining to their scope of work
  • Successful completion of Pumps 101 course
  • Report potential hazards, accidents, and near misses
  • Perform Field Level Risk Assessments
  • Conduct pre-use equipment inspections and report required maintenance
  • Familiar with customer and company rules, regulations and standards
  • Operate the following:
    • Excavator – Used to excavate and stage dirt, rocks or other material then load trucks. Also used to dig pipeline trenches, excavate sumps and hoist heavy assets
    • Bulldozer – Used to level and grade dumping area, construct berms, maintain roads and laydown areas as well as tow heavy trucks
    • Wheel Loader – Used to stage dirt, rocks or other material then load trucks. Also used to construct berms, move heavy assets and load/unload transport trucks
    • Rock Truck – Use rock truck to move material as required to site
  • Warm up and exercise equipment prior to use
  • Conduct regular fueling and fluid checks
  • Perform required vehicle housekeeping and light maintenance
  • Operate pressure washer to clean exterior of equipment
  • Assist with general operations


  • High School or equivalent (GED)
  • Must be of legal age to work in Alberta
  • Must be fluent in English (both verbal and written)
  • Must have confirmed experience operating heavy equipment trucks
  • Must possess a class 5 driver’s licence with an acceptable driving record
  • Must participate and pass pre-access physical fitness testing
  • Must participate and pass pre-access screening for drugs, alcohol and controlled substances
  • Must obtain a criminal record check
  • Must successfully pass the Pumps 100 test given during interview
  • Previous experience within the Alberta oil sands is considered an asset
  • Oil Sands Safety Association (OSSA) Regional Orientation & Construction Safety Training System (CSTS) or OSSA Basic Safety Orientation (BSO)
